Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. We do not sell your private personal information to anyone. Period. We only share private personal information with third parties when necessary to conduct business or complete a transaction, and we keep information we need for record-keeping, accounting, taxes, and other business purposes. (For example, if you purchase a license for one of our datasets, a third-party payment processor would handle the transaction, and we would keep records for accounting and tax purposes). We may also turn over any information we have to law enforcement if we are required to by law, or in order to investigate or protect against abuse of our systems or business.

We do not use cookies to track you across the Internet. We may use cookies, javascript, and local browser storage to make the website work better for you and to provide our services, but we do not track you on the internet outside of our own websites. We do use analytics and may log all access to our server (including IP address and browser user-agent strings), all search criteria, all transcript corrections submitted, and all communication with us to track how the site is used, troubleshoot problems, deter abuse of our systems, conduct business, and improve our services.

Google probably does track you. We use Google Analytics to monitor use of our site, so Google sets and tracks cookies of its own when you visit our site (see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites to learn what Google Analytics collects and how Google uses the data). We also serve ads on some pages to help reduce our hosting costs. We use Google AdSense to do so. (Third party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or other methods to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies and other tracking methods enables it and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalized Google ads at https://www.google.com/settings/ads and some third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info).

Any census transcripts or corrections you submit to us are not private personal data. You dedicate any such transcripts or corrections to the public domain under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Public Domain Dedication.
